Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has withdrawn from the Gabon squad that will take part in the King’s Cup due to the death of his grandmother on Tuesday.

The forward posted an emotional tribute to his grandmother on his social media accounts, writing, “One last smile that showed you were the nicer. one last trip to your village which I was happy to be with you . You gave me so much love you learned me so many things i speak spanish because of you. im proud to be your Little son. One last Kiss to tell you good bye. Un beso muy fuerte te quiero mucho mémé / grandma / abuela. ❤️😓😥❤️ RIP”

Aubameyang was expected to arrive in Thailand on Wednesday ahead of Gabon’s game against the host nation on Thursday, however the 28-year-old cancelled his trip due to the bereavement.

This is the 46th time the King’s Cup has been contested. Organised by the Football Association of Thailand, it will take place in Bangkok from 22 March to 25 March at the   Rajamangala National Stadium.

In addition to the hosts, Thailand, and Gabon, Slovakia and the United Arab Emirates make up the rest of the mini-tournament. This is the first time Gabon are taking part.
