Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has ingratiated himself further with the Arsenal faithful by posing with club legend Tony Adams at Ashburton Grove.

On Tuesday evening, Aubameyang shared a picture of himself and Adams at the Arsenal stadium, presumably after the 3-0 win over Watford at the weekend.

Aubameyang looks somewhat awkward but Adams appears to be pretty happy.

It’s somewhat surreal to watch two different eras in Arsenal’s history collide.

Adams was Mr Arsenal. The centre-back joined the club’s youth side in 1980 when he was just 14 and made his debut against Sunderland almost a month after his 17th birthday. He made over 500 appearances for Arsenal and hung up his boots for good when he left.

Adams practically cost Arsenal nothing and allegedly said that he would sign any contract they put in front of him without reading it.

Aubameyang, on the other hand, cost Arsenal a record £56m in January and previously played for Milan, Saint-Etienne and Dortmund.

That’s not to say that either player was any better than the other – for one they play in completely different positions – but it’s interesting to see how much football has changed over the last 40 years.

The 28-year-old meeting an Arsenal hero also helps send a message to fans that he’s trying to immerse himself in life at north London and wants to learn about his new club. Obviously this could actually be true but, if there’s one way to ingratiate yourself with most Gooners, it’s pose with Tony Adams.
