Arsenal are reportedly set to offer Mohamed Elneny a new contract but Gooners aren’t best pleased.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are set offer Elneny a new deal with the 25-year-old’s current contract set to run out in two years.

Arsenal allegedly want to tie the defensive midfielder down for longer just in case Jack Wilshere, who’s stalling over signing a new deal himself, doesn’t stay in north London.

Wilshere has reportedly been offered a highly incentivised new deal by the club he’s been at since the age of nine, but the 26-year-old can’t seem to make his peace with the pay cut he’ll be getting as a result.

The England midfielder’s basic wage will supposedly be dropping from £110k-per-week to around £90kpw with playing bonuses due to his proneness to injury. Arsenal can’t keep paying huge wages to players who spend most of their time on the sidelines.

The Mirror claim that Arsenal have even offered proposed increments in Wilshere’s basic weekly wage if he plays for blocks of games but he’s not having any of it.

With just three months left on his current contract, it’s looking increasingly likely that Wilshere could actually leave Arsenal in the summer.

Still, on a more positive note, while Elneny’s no Wilshere, his heart’s in the right place and the Egypt international has seriously improved his passing and overall style of play this season. I have no problem with him being offered a new deal.

I seem to be in the minority though…
