Timo Werner says he dreams of playing in the Premier League someday, but for Manchester United or Liverpool, not Arsenal.

The media linked Werner to Arsenal last month, with reports that the club sent scouts to watch him.

Although, at the time, it seemed just as likely those scouts were there to watch Kalidou Koulibaly playing for the opposition.

Regardless, it seems like Werner is interested in a move to England. Unfortunately he has his sights set a bit further north than London.

“Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me,” he told FourFourTwo. “I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs. But probably not in the next few years – later, when my English is a little bit better!

“Manchester United and Liverpool were the teams I watched quite a lot in England. In Liverpool it’s also their stadium and the atmosphere. But when I have to decide, I’m more Manchester United than Liverpool.”

Naby Keita is moving from RB Leipzig to Liverpool this summer. If that goes well he could play a part in convincing the striker to move there instead. Either way, it’s a bit of a blow to any Arsenal hopes of signing him.

Honestly, at this stage I didn’t expect Arsenal to be on his case anyway.

Arsene Wenger’s side has much more glaring deficiencies than the centre-forward position.

Transfermarkt value the striker at £54m, and the club have already bought two strikers for around that amount in the last year.

In a few years’ time though, when Aubameyang is in his thirties and Lacazette isn’t far off, that’s when Werner could become a good option.

Hopefully the club can make themselves a bit more attractive to the 22-year-old before then.
