Arsenal are joining Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in the race to sign RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, according to reports.

The Mirror write that Arsenal are showing an interest in the £25m-rated former Liverpool goalkeeper. The 27-year-old is reportedly impressing with his current club, after struggling to break through in England in the past.

Gulacsi first joined Liverpool on loan in 2007, but didn’t make any appearances for the club. A year later he made the deal permanent, and went out on loan to Hereford United, Tranmere Rovers and Hull City.

Still without any first-team appearances in six years, Gulacsi moved to Red Bull Salzburg. He had a lot more success with his new club, and earned another transfer to RB Leipzig, his current side.

Looking at his record this season, it’s difficult to see why Arsenal would want the keeper to replace Čech. He’s conceded more goals per game than the 35-year-old, kept fewer clean sheets, and made fewer saves per goal.

The only things Gulacsi has over Čech this season are penalty saves and marginally better distribution. I can’t help but feel like Arsenal should aim a little higher.
