Arsene Wenger claims that he hasn’t been sleeping recently in an interview with Sky Sports but Arsenal fans aren’t having any of it.

Apart from Arsenal’s impressive 2-0 victory away to AC Milan at the San Siro on Thursday, the side’s form has been shambolic since Christmas.

In 2018, Arsenal have only won two Premier League matches.

They were also thumped 3-0 twice in one week by Manchester City; one of these defeats was the League Cup final.

Therefore, you can understand why Arsenal fans are a little cynical over Wenger’s claims that he can’t sleep and that he’s having a hard time.

Although Arsenal are in especially poor form at the moment – apart from the Milan win – something’s not been right at the club for years.

“It’s not the person they hate, they hate the manager who doesn’t deliver the performance,” Wenger told Sky Sports News. “I can make that difference.

“But I’m just unhappy that we lose the games. I want to win, win with style even, so it’s very ambitious. When we don’t do it of course I’m suffering like everyone else.

“Arsenal is 30 million people, it’s not the suffering of one person, you want to make 30 million people happy and that’s what you care about.”

“[Not sleeping] is part of the job. It is surviving disappointments and finding solutions, it can make you a better manager to face crisis.”

Although it’s understandable that Arsenal fans are frustrated with their club and manager, I can also believe that the 68-year-old is genuinely struggling.

No matter what anyone says, he loves this club more than most and it hurts him to see its downward spiral. His stubbornness stems from him truly believing he’s actually doing what’s best. Even if that’s wrong, there’s no way he’s just hanging around just to annoy us.

Wenger’s health is why many of us want the Frenchman to stand down. He’s 68 now – he should be lounging around on a chaise longues in France with a large glass of red by now.
