Arsenal can reportedly buy Bernd Leno for just €25m providing they seal the deal before the end of April.

Assessed: 7 goalkeepers who could replace Cech in the summer

The Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, has a clause in his contract that allows him to move for €25m (£21.9m) before 30 April according to BILD.

After that date, the Bundesliga side can ask whatever they want for the 26-year-old.

According to reports earlier this month, Sven Mislintat has convinced Arsene Wenger that Leno is the best option to replace Petr Cech this summer.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of keepers ahead of the summer window when they are expected to buy at least one, but probably won’t if previous experience has taught us anything.

According to reports across the redtops earlier in March, Mislintat wants Leno and has convinced Wenger he’s the man to replace Cech.

The shotstopper would cost between £25m and £30m, should Arsenal not take advantage of his clause, which is certainly a lot cheaper than many of the other options being mentioned.

This is not the first time Arsenal have been linked with Leno. Ahead of last summer the club were also linked with him and it’s nice to see that he was only priced at £22m back then.

Inflation has not seen his price go crazy.

Leno is under contract with the German side until 2020.

He has previously said he will only leave Germany to be a number one. “If I go abroad, then not as number 1 contender, but only as clear number 1,” he said.

David Ospina publicly stated his intentions to leave last summer, and his contract expires in 2019. Petr Čech hasn’t made a solid case to keep the number one spot this season either. The 35-year-old (36 in May) is up to six errors directly leading to goals in the league this season.

Arsenal need to look at the position in the summer whatever happens. Leno could be a relatively inexpensive option, but it’s up to the club to decide whether he’s the right one.

They have been looking at him since last summer so they aren’t making a rushed decision. At that time, we did a scout report on the keeper that you can read here.
