Napoli have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, which gives Arsenal a better chance of nabbing him.

Arsenal have been linked with Leno this month, as it’s becoming more and more apparent that Arsene Wenger needs a new first team goalkeeper.

Napoli were in the running to sign the German as they’re set to lose Pepe Reina to AC Milan on a free in a few months. However, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A side have dropped out because of the goalkeeper’s price tag.

Leverkusen are reportedly asking for €28m (£31.72m); Napoli are only willing to pay €18m (£20.39m).

They’ve allegedly turned their attention to Genoa’s Mattia Perin instead.

In theory, this gives Arsenal a clear run at signing Leno… if they’re willing to meet Leverkusen’s asking price.

While Leno might not be the strongest option, Arsenal definitely need a new pair of safe hands.

Petr Cech kept his 200th Premier League clean sheet against Watford last Sunday, but the stop-stopper is approaching 36 and is far past his best.

Although he may end up signing a new deal at Arsenal, I don’t see him remaining #1 past this season.

David Ospina, whose contract runs out at the end of next season, is also likely to leave after moves to Fenerbahce and then the MLS fell through last summer.

Leno has kept 10 clean sheets in 30 appearances this season.

Here are five other goalkeepers Arsenal might consider signing as a replacement for Petr Cech in the summer.
