According to reports in France, Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal for Thomas Lemar, the Monaco man coveted by Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.

Lemar was, as you know, close to joining Arsenal in the great summer shambles that saw City leave their Alexis bid until the last minute, meaning Arsenal couldn’t push through an insanely overpriced deal for the Frenchman.

Since then, however, Liverpool have been the side most heavily linked with the 22-year-old who turned down a new deal in France.

The information, relayed in England by The S*n, who got it from Le 10 Sport, is certainly not coming from reliable sources (Le 10 are France’s version of The S*n by all accounts) but that doesn’t mean they aren’t on the right track anyway.

With his price tag still around £90m and Arsenal likely to miss out on Champions League football once again, it’s hard to see the Gunners splashing this sort of cash on another attacking player when the rest of their squad is such a disaster.
