Jakub Jankto’s agent has revived rumours of a possible transfer to Arsenal, admitting the club are “certainly contenders” along with AC Milan.

Giuseppe Riso, who represents Jankto, told RMC Sport this week that Arsenal are in for the Udinese midfielder.

“They are certainly contenders. Jankto is an important player,” he said. “We decided with the Pozzo family not to talk about this question in January; to allow him to develop and mature.

“Milan and Arsenal are teams who keep an eye on young players, so we will certainly talk about it [in the summer].”

The media regularly linked Arsenal with Jankto in January, particularly after the Czech international admitted he doesn’t want to stay in Italy for the rest of his career.

The 22-year-old also revealed last summer that he supported the Gunners as a child, as well as Juventus. That seemed to further increase the chances that he could be open to a move.

Nothing else came of the rumours at the time, with Udinese director Manuel Gerolin insisting that the club’s current players needed to stick together “as a team” until the end of the season.

From the sounds of things there was actually something to the links though.

Jankto is having a decent season with the Serie A club. He has five goals and six assists in 28 matches in all competitions.

I think the main question is whether Wenger’s side really needs another attacking midfielder this summer. Mesut Özil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan pretty much have that role covered at this point.

We’ll see though, you never know with Arsenal.
