Five Arsenal youngsters have received England call ups for the next round of youth international fixtures, as the club’s academy continues to go from strength to strength.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles returns to the u21 squad after making his debut in October last year. The top level youth side will play Romania and Ukraine on the 24th and 27th March respectively.

Josh Dasilva has performed very well in midfield for Arsenal recently, and clearly Keith Downing has taken notice. The England u20 manager named the 19-year-old in his squad to face Poland and Portugal on 22 and 27 March.

The majority of Arsenal call ups were in the u19 bracket though. 18-year-old trio Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock all made Paul Simpson’s squad.

The side will play three Euro qualifiers over the break against Hungary, Latvia and Macedonia. The matches will take place between 21-27 March.

Nelson’s call-up is particularly noteworthy, because it means he can’t play in the first leg of Arsenal’s FA Youth Cup semi-final against Blackpool, for which he was eligible. Given he didn’t play in the previous rounds, it’s probably fairer to give those who did a chance anyway.

Meanwhile, Arsenal didn’t get any call-ups in the u18 bracket. Emile Smith Rowe has been in excellent form, and probably would’ve got a chance, but his recent injury ended those hopes.

Good luck to all the youngsters over the break. Hopefully they come back fit and ready to finish the season on a high.
