Arsenal lost 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s North London derby, but they put in a terrible performance that deserved an even worse scoreline.

Čech, Bellerin and a bit of luck prevented the result from being an utter embarrassment. The forwards and midfielders didn’t do nearly enough to deserve a goal, and the rest of the defence offered very little in the way of protection, especially in the second half.

Granit Xhaka – 5

Xhaka won more tackles than anyone except Bellerin, made more interceptions than anyone except Mustafi, and had a 94% pass accuracy, the highest on the team. On the other hand, he didn’t provide any cover on the counter, and didn’t create a single chance. Ineffective, but not the worst performance he’s had this season.

Mohamed Elneny – 4

If Xhaka was ineffective, Elneny was even worse. One clearance was the total sum of his defensive contributions. On the ball, he was dispossessed once and completed fewer passes than everyone in the starting eleven except Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang and Wilshere.

Jack Wilshere – 6

Wilshere played a lovely ball into Aubameyang in the first-half which was incorrectly given as offside. The boos rang out whenever he had the ball and he snatched at a chance in the opening period, but generally he did well early on.

In the second half he almost curled one into the corner but for a good save by Hugo Lloris. On the other hand, other than one pass that didn’t connect with Welbeck and the other given as offside, Wilshere couldn’t create any chances. He could’ve been involved more, because his contributions were generally positive.
