The Belgian media are currently loving Chuba Akpom while he’s on loan at Sint-Truiden and assistant coach, Chris O’Loughlin, is open to the 22-year-old staying for longer.

Akpom joined Sint-Truiden on a six-month loan spell in January but the club are already considering keeping him for longer.

According to O’Loughlin, who Sport Witness report was a key figure in bringing the striker to Belgium, it’s all down to Arsenal.

“We exclude nothing, but everything depends on Arsenal,” O’Loughlin said. “I don’t think they can already answer about their plans for Chuba next season. It is too early for that.”

Whether O’Loughlin wants to keep Akpom at Sint-Truiden on loan or sign him on a permanent deal remains to be seen but I don’t see Arsenal saying no to either.

This is the young striker’s sixth loan move since his promotion to the Arsenal first team in 2013; he’s still only made 12 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side.

What’s more, he’s only scored twice.

On Friday, Akpom netted his loan side’s winner against Anderlecht and has earned the plaudits from the Belgian media, with Monday’s edition of Het Belang van Limburg (via Sport Witness again) penning the headline: “Akpom is the new favourite”.

With the striker doing so well over in Belgium, enjoying his football and out of contract with Arsenal in June 2019, a permanent move could be on the cards.

At this point, it seems like the best option for all involved if he continues to impress on loan.
