Schalke are concerned that Max Meyer will join Bayern Munich on a free transfer after Barcelona dropped their interest.

Meyer is out of contract in the summer and could leave on a free transfer.

The midfielder has been linked with Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich as fears grow at Schalke that he could follow Leon Goretzka out of the club.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that the 22-year-old could join Bayern Munich.

They report that Barcelona were interested and had sent several scouts to watch him, but are now looking elsewhere after signing Philippe Coutinho.

Schalke are determined not to let another key midfielder leave for free and have offered him a new contract. He reportedly has until 20th March to make a decision.

Mundo Deportivo believe that Schalke want a bidding war for the player.

Arsenal have also been mentioned again, but, much like with Goretzka, could miss out on the player.

Bayern is a very attractive destination for German players and have a much higher chance of winning things than Arsenal at the moment.

Meyer can play in multiple midfield positions and could be a long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla.
