Mohamed Elneny has allegedly dropped a clanger by announcing that Mesut Ozil has in fact signed a new deal with Arsenal.

After the BBC’s David Ornstein confirmed Ozil has signed a three-and-a-half year extension on Tuesday, Elneny has allegedly gone and told beINSPORTS that the playmaker has indeed pledged his future to the Gunners.

Elneny only continues to endear himself to Gooners.

First, he had a proper dig at Alexis Sanchez on social media not once but twice, and now he’s gone and dropped this clanger.

“I spoke to Mesut and he told me that he signed the new contract. He is a world class player on & off the pitch,” the 25-year-old told BeIN Sports, reports Football.London.

“He is a vital player for us and there is always a positive aura surrounding him.”

My guess is that Arsenal probably didn’t want the announcement to come from a player…

It’s a big deal – they’ve probably got a teaser video all planned and everything.

The Telegraph are reporting that the announcement that Ozil has chosen to stay in north London is ‘imminent’ but I don’t think it was supposed to be THIS imminent.

The German’s contract is said to earn him £350k-per-week before tax, which makes him the highest-paid player at Arsenal and one of the top earners in the Premier League.

It’s good to see his teammates genuinely seem to love him.

The German deciding to strap himself to what appears to be a sinking ship – at least in terms of on-pitch performances – speaks volumes and sends a positive message to the rest of the squad.

As does the rumour that he turned down a big money move to China, as well as PSG and Manchester United.
