Arsenal will offer Ainsley Maitland-Niles a new contract, according to ESPN.

Maitland-Niles still has over 18 months to run on his current Arsenal deal, but could soon be offered a new one.

According to ESPN, Arsenal are keen to tie the 20-year-old down for the long-term and have opened talks about a new contract.

Maitland-Niles has progressed from promising academy player to fully-fledged member of the first team squad this season.

He was initially cover for Sead Kolasinac at left wing-back during Arsenal’s Europa League and Carabao Cup matches but his impressive performances convinced Arsene Wenger that he could do a job in a traditional left-back role.

That’s where he found himself playing against West Ham in the Premier League.

A good performance that night saw him keep his place for big games against Liverpool and Chelsea.

Wenger has called Maitland-Niles the future of the club, and sees him playing in midfield in the not too distant future.

It’s certainly a good move from the club to secure one of their best young talents to a new long-term deal.

Maitland-Niles has been with the club since he was nine-years-old, and could be around for many more years to come.
