Mesut Ozil is set to miss the second leg of Arsenal’s Europa League clash against Östersunds FK on Thursday night and Gooners aren’t having any of it.

Ozil has turned into the king of pulling a sickie this season.

The 29-year-old has been ruled out of matches due to illness more times than any other player: six.

“His immune system is in trouble and I don’t know why. We hope we can improve that medically,” Arsene Wenger said ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League match at the Emirates, reports the Mirror.

“He came back from Ostersund [where Arsenal won the first leg 3-0] on Thursday night, practised Friday and Saturday. Since Monday, he was in bed.

“Today was the first session.

“I would certainly have played him but because he was sick, he will have to work hard and he will not be involved against Ostersund. He should be OK for Sunday.”

Fans are beginning to wonder whether the German really does have the worst immune system in the world of football, or if he’s actually ill at all.

You see, thanks to social media, fans can often keep a close eye on footballers’ off-pitch exploits and, on Monday, Ozil and his fiance, Amine Gülşe, shared pictures of the two of them in Istanbul, where the former Miss Turkey is from.

Ozil and his bride-to-be looked just fine as they soaked up the sun abroad, which is fine and dandy, since Arsene Wenger said he had been on his sickbed from Monday onward and the pictures could have been taken on Sunday… It just seems a bit suspicious is all.

Is the playmaker just deciding if and when he plays now? Or is he really that sickly?

What’s even more concerning is that when Ozil isn’t sick, he’s sidelined with ‘knee inflammation’, which has repeatedly flared up this season.

The question is, why would Ozil and Wenger repeatedly lie about the playmaker’s health just so he can have a day off? Surely, they wouldn’t make it this transparent and the player would be more conscious of what he shares online.

Therefore, I’m inclined to believe that Ozil really is ill.

Here’s what Twitter had to say:

1. Sicknote

Most Arsenal fans have started to get more than a little cynical over Ozil’s frequent illnesses.

Next, some fans aren’t bothered at all

2. Are you for real?

Some aren’t bothered, as long as he plays in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
