Jeremy Corbyn says he’s happy with Arsenal’s January transfer business, particularly seeing the ‘endless’ speculation about Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil put to bed.

The Labour party leader spoke to COPA90 about Arsenal’s business, during an event about racism in football.

After giving his thoughts on the main topic at the event, he told David Vujanic that overall he’s glad with how things turned out for the team he supports in the transfer window.

“I was happy that Arsenal got, eventually, what we wanted and that the endless debate about Alexis Sanchez was over and he finally moved,” he said.

“I was really pleased when Alexis came and I thought him and Ozil linking up together – then eventually with Lacazette – could have been a brilliant combination. But clearly Alexis wanted to go.

“I am also very pleased that Özil has signed a longer-term contract, so I think we are in a much better place.”

No surprises there then.

I think pretty much everyone in the Arsenal fanbase was happy to see Özil commit his future. Sanchez moving on, particularly to Manchester United, was a much more divisive topic.

Some fans thought the club shouldn’t have sold to a rival, even with Henrikh Mkhitaryan arriving.

Others thought selling him to anyone in the Premier League was a bad idea.

Despite all that, at least it meant the rumours finally ended.

With Mkhitaryan, Özil, Lacazette and Aubameyang all on long term contracts, there’s no excuse not to focus on the football.

Hopefully they’ll give us some positive things to talk about in the next few months so we can all move on.
