Jack Wilshere’s new deal still isn’t sorted despite both him and Wenger being sure it’d be done by now.

The longer you have to wait for something to happen, the more anxious you become.

That’s the feeling some fans may be getting as they wait news about Jack Wilshere’s contract extension.

The midfielder is out of contract in the summer and has spoken about wanting to stay at the club.

Arsene Wenger has also made it clear that he wants to keep him, so what’s the hold up?

In December, Wenger said that talks would get underway about a new deal.

“I will talk to him. I said [I would] at the end of December,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports.

“We are at the beginning of December so it’s true that it’s not far, but I wanted to see, as well, how much he can contribute and how he will last physically.”

A day later, Jack Wilshere responded by saying the talks had been good, and that he expected it to be sorted.

“I probably feel better than I did last year,” he said, as reported by the Guardian.

“I feel fitter, and am getting better each game. I spoke to the boss [about contract talks] and he said he will speak to me. I’m sure it will get done.”

January has been and gone, and there’s still no news.

There were reports that a new deal had been offered, but we’ve no idea if it was accepted or not.

It’s possible that the deals to bring Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the club, along with the finalising of Mesut Ozil’s new contract, that Wilshere’s contract has been put to one side for the moment.

Huss Fahmy, the club’s contract negotiator, has been rather busy.

Now that the transfer window has closed again, there should be more time to get the outstanding contract issues sorted.

The deal might even be close.

Perhaps I’m just worrying over nothing and need to remain patient for an announcement.

Still, the clock is ticking, and the doubt increased with every passing week the deal isn’t announced.
