Arsene Wenger has reportedly told his Arsenal squad that if they don’t step up their game and finish in the top four this season, major chances are going to happen in May.

According to the Islington Gazette, who have allegedly spoken with a source close to Arsenal, Wenger held a board meeting on Monday and Tuesday this week. During said meeting, he reportedly informed coaching staff and the Arsenal first team that if they don’t get Champions League football for next season, a major ‘upheaval’ will be going down over the summer.

Presumably, if Wenger did say this, he meant it as a threat that if the players didn’t buck their ideas up between now and May, he would start offloading them.

Although this seems fair and some Arsenal players have been given far too many chances, which the club are now suffering the consequences of, Wenger also has to shoulder his share of the blame.

The Arsenal squad has changed numerous times over the last decade but the quality and form has still steadily gone down the toilet.

The backroom staff has changed and the club have coughed up record amounts to sign players like Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, yet these top strikers struggle to get involved in games. Surely it can’t be their fault?

If Wenger wants to blame someone for the fact that Arsenal probably won’t make top four or win the Europa League this season, he needs to look in the mirror.

Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment. 10 points below Spurs in fourth with 11 matches left to play. Does Wenger really think his team can turn this around while the clubs above drop points?
