Kicker claim Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is now not much more than a memory at Borussia Dortmund, after Michy Batshuayi’s start with the club.

Batshuayi scored two more goals on Thursday night as Dortmund fought their way to a 3-2 victory. In just three matches, he already has five goals and one assist.

It’s a dream start to his loan from Chelsea, for the player himself and for the fans.

German publication Kicker took the opportunity to send a few digs in Aubameyang’s direction. One article claimed “Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seems to be just a fading memory at Borussia Dortmund”. Another bore the headline “nobody thinks about “Auba” anymore”.

It’s fair to say the Gabon international didn’t leave his former club on the best of terms. In his final six months in Germany, he received three separate suspensions. Two from his own club, and one for a red card in December.

When he came back from the third suspension for one game towards the end of January, his performance wasn’t exactly inspiring, and Dortmund drew that match 2-2.

After that, Aubameyang finally got his move to Arsenal, and his debut goal against Everton. That must’ve hurt the Dortmund supporters even more, so it’s good for them that they had Batshuayi to distract them.

Hopefully the striker doesn’t take Kicker’s headlines too personally. After all, he still gave a lot to Dortmund, with 141 goals and 36 assists in 213 matches. When the wounds aren’t so fresh, I’m sure that’s what they’ll remember.
