Arsenal Women take on Millwall Lionesses in the FA Women’s Cup Round 5 tie on Sunday afternoon at Borehamwood FC.

The FA Women’s Cup is one of two trophies that Arsenal can win this season alongside the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup. Arsenal play Manchester City Women next month in the final at Wycombe Wanderers FC.

Even though Millwall Lionesses are playing in the FA WSL2 they are are dangerous team not to be underestimated. They are currently unbeaten in the League for more than one year and 16 games overall.

Arsenal recently beat them 5-2 away in the Conti Cup Group stage, but it was a closer game than the scoreline suggests. Manager Lee Burch and assistant Lauren Phillips have turned the team’s fortune round and instilled a hard-working team ethic that is complemented by creative attacking players.

Arsenal cannot be complacent or it could become a tricky tie thanks to Millwall’s strong and creative front four, mixed with a solid defensive shape.

It is quite interesting to note that there are many former Arsenal youth players at Millwall who have carried on developing well after leaving the club due to a lack of first team chances.

Goalkeeper, Sarah Quantrill, has played for Chelsea and won the League at Liverpool. Defenders, Billie Brooks and Leigh-Anne Robe, were stalwarts in the development teams and won many trophies with the club. Midfielders,Leigh Nicol, Amber Gaylor, Brionne Fowle and Charlotte Devlin, also won titles at u17 and development team level.

Forward, Rianna Dean, who left the club last summer was also a fantastic performer with the youth teams and it is still mind-boggling that she never got a first team game at Arsenal despite scoring consistently with the reserves.

In terms of starting 11, there might be a bit of squad rotation from Joe Montemurro but with multiple injuries in defensive positions, it should be limited.

The big question is will we see Kim Little’s return or is it too early for her to get a game back?

The fact she has not been selected by Scotland for the international friendlies suggest she is not 100% ready yet to play.

Jemma Rose and Vyan Sampson will not be involved after Arsenal confirmed the pair have left the club.
