Arsenal players have gone into hiding on social media, after the North London derby defeat on Saturday.

Since the end of the 1-0 defeat, almost none of the players have come out to take responsibility for their performances. Nor did they apologise to the Arsenal fans, promise to do better in the next game, or even offer to learn some more lessons.

Instead, they’ve nearly all stayed completely silent.

The only player to post on social media after the game was Jack Wilshere, who updated his Snapchat story to say “recovering after a Saturday to forget”.

Before the game, plenty of the players were hyping up the importance of the match on social media.

From Saturday’s starting XI, Hector Bellerin, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shkodran Mustafi, Jack Wilshere, Nacho Monreal and Mesut Özil all posted on Twitter on Instagram in the build up.

The players talked about how “focused” they were, and said they knew what they needed to do.

On the pitch, that never seemed to be the case. The players didn’t even really put the minimum physical effort in, let alone express their skill and talent.

Perhaps that’s why they’ve all gone so quiet now. They know they didn’t live up to the expectations they set.

The only thing to do now is to admit that, but none of them seem very willing to do so.

Considering the response they would inevitably get from angry Arsenal fans, you can understand their reluctance. However, just like against Tottenham on Saturday, the entire squad, management and club owe Arsenal fans more than they seem prepared, or able, to deliver.
