Julio Pleguezuelo and Chuba Akpom made debuts for their new loan clubs over the weekend, and Stephy Mavididi became the latest player to join the injury list.

Lucas Perez started Deportivo La Coruna’s match against Real Sociedad on Friday. He played the full 90 minutes and had a couple of shots, but his side lost 5-0.

On Saturday, a few more Arsenal loanees got a chance. Cohen Bramall started on the bench, but played 57 minutes of Birmingham City’s 3-1 win after an early substitution.

Marc Bola and Stephy Mavididi both started as Bristol Rovers lost 2-1 to Shrewsbury and Charlton lost 3-2 to Oxford.

Bola was subbed off in injury time, and Mavididi managed 69 minutes. Unfortunately, the Charlton striker was subbed off with another hamstring injury. It’s not clear yet how long he’ll be sidelined.

Julio Pleguezuelo made his debut for Gimnastic de Tarragona, and the defender helped his new team to a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against Cadiz.

Chuba Akpom also made his debut late on from the bench as Sint-Truidence lost 2-0.

Takuma Asano didn’t even make the squad for Stuttgart against Wolfsburg.

It’s fairly concerning that only Lucas Perez and Julio Pleguezuelo played a full match this weekend. Hopefully that’s more for tactical reasons than anything else.

Meanwhile, there was some good news at last for Joel Campbell. Real Betis revealed that the forward is now out training on the pitch, so he should be close to a return.
