Arsenal have the third highest net spend of the top six clubs since Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool, but the Gunners are still way behind both Manchester sides.

Liverpool are bottom of the list, largely thanks to the sale of Philippe Coutinho this January.

The Brazilian left for Barcelona for a fee of around £142m in the end and even spending a world record fee for a defender on Van Dijk (£75m) wasn’t enough to offset the money they brought in.

Spurs are obviously trying to keep spending down and hold onto their current squad as they invest in a new stadium.

When Arsenal did that, it was just Arsene Wenger being ‘stingy‘, but now Tottenham are doing the same the media are praising Pochettino’s prudence:

Here is the net-spend for each of the big-six clubs since Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool:

1Manchester City

– £371m

2Manchester United

– £252m

3Arsenal

– £86m

4Chelsea

– £72m

5Tottenham Hotspur

– £19m

6Liverpool

– £5m

Arsenal’s figure is actually slightly lower than it was at the start of the 2017 summer window.

Since then, the Gunners have made a small profit of £3.01m, according to figures from transfermarkt.co.uk. Selling seven players from the first-team squad helped keep spending down a lot.

There’s no surprise which two clubs are above them though.

Manchester United and Manchester City seem to spend whenever they grow bored (or boring). They rarely bring in large fees for their outgoing players either.

As long as they’re making the money to spend, it’s hard to complain about that.
