Arsenal fans want Eddie Nketiah to start against Östersunds FK on Thursday, after the news about Alexandre Lacazette’s injury.

On Tuesday, Arsenal ruled Lacazette out for the next four-to-six weeks, revealing he had to undergo a minor knee procedure. This sent supporters into panic mode, because January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ineligible for the Europa League.

With both big money signings out of the Östersund tie, we asked fans who they want to see up front instead:

The most popular response was Eddie Nketiah, with over half of the votes.

Danny Welbeck still received a fair amount of support as well though.

Other than those two, those replying could only come up with the option of recalling Lucas Perez:

Now that the transfer window is closed, Arsenal can’t recall Perez, so this isn’t actually a possibility. The only exception to this rule is with goalkeepers. If you don’t have two fit keepers at your club, you can recall one from loan with just 24-hours notice.

Claude, one of the stars of YouTube channel ArsenalFanTV, responded to the poll to say that although he’s sad for Lacazette, it’s also a chance for Nketiah to shine:

I think Welbeck will probably get the nod, as the most senior player available. If Nketiah does get a chance, he’s more than capable of stepping up.

The 18-year-old has nine goals in 11 appearances for the u23s this season, and two goals in 102 minutes for the senior side. Plus, he’s scored eight goals in seven appearances for the England u19s.

Whoever gets a chance on Thursday, it’ll be a big opportunity for them to prove themselves. Hopefully they can take it.
