Late on Thursday afternoon, it was finally announced that Mesut Ozil has signed a new deal with Arsenal and, I think it’s safe to say, Gooners went a little crazy.

Even though most Gooners were expecting Ozil to finally put pen to paper on a new deal after the BBC’s David Ornstein said as much, it was still a hugely exciting moment when the 29-year-old shared that picture of him and Arsene Wenger smiling widely over his new contract.

When you’re an Arsenal fan, you get used to feeling let-down and, given the form the team have been in this season, it would be hard to blame Ozil for wanting out.

The playmaker doesn’t want out though and he signed on the dotted line for three more years.

Was his £350k-per-week (before tax) pay check a sweetener? Probably. But, according to SportBild, he turned down a £21.9m (€25m) annual salary at Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao F.C., as well as moves to PSG, Barcelona and, most importantly, Manchester United.

When you look at it like that, and include the fact he is one of Wenger’s most important players, who signed for Arsenal when they weren’t in a great place in 2013, you can understand why, 17 hours later, Gooners are still going crazy over Ozil’s new deal.

Here’s what Twitter’s been saying since the deal was announced:
