Harry Kane says he wants to prove Arsenal wrong for letting him go and tries to do so every time he steps onto the pitch against the Gunners.

Nothing like holding a grudge you picked up as an eight-year-old, eh?

At this point, it’s hardly a well kept secret that Kane played for an Arsenal youth team. He also spent time with Spurs and Watford, who took him on trial periods, but didn’t sign him.

Eventually Tottenham decided he was worth taking a chance on, and the rest is history.

It’s more than just ‘history’ to Kane himself though, apparently. He was still thinking about it when he made his North London derby in 2015.

“It might sound ridiculous but every time we played them, I thought, ‘Alright, we’ll see who’s right and who’s wrong’,” Kane wrote in The Players’ Tribune. “For me, the rejection is the best thing that ever happened to me.

“When I was lacing my up boots for my first start in the North London derby back in 2015, I had a flashback to when I was 11, playing against Arsenal’s youth team. It was like déjà vu.

“We were in the tunnel, and I thought, ‘O.K. Took me 12 years. But we’ll see who was right and who was wrong.'”

Kane ended up scoring two goals that day, and says it felt like an ‘I told you so’ moment. Now the striker is preparing to play against Arsenal again, and I’d expect him to feel similarly fired up.

The 24-year-old put in a poor performance at the Emirates earlier this season. He struggled to influence the game and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino withdrew him on 75 minutes.

The Arsenal crowd loved every minute, and jeered him all the way to the bench.

It’s been almost two years since the centre-forward last scored against the Gunners in open play.

Kane’s goal in the 2-2 draw in March 2016 was the last North London derby where he didn’t need a penalty to get on the scoresheet.

Hopefully Arsenal can keep that run going and make that chip on his shoulder that little bit heavier.
