The England squad for the SheBelieves Cup has been named and there are no Arsenal players involved.

It is the fewest number of players called up for the Lionesses for more than 15 years.

Questions have to be asked why no Arsenal players are involved with England, when the club used to have up to eight called up at one time.

Does it means the club is not performing as well as it used to? Yes, definitely, no League title or Champions League places since the 2013 season.

Another reason is the number of senior players available for England selection is ridiculously low (six).

Arsenal have become an international team and there are fewer English players involved as they have moved on to more successful clubs.

The squad has four Dutch players, three Scottish, two Irish, one American, one Swedish and one German player. There are therefore only six senior English players eligible.

Jordan Nobbs is very much an automatic choice for England but is currently injured.

Leah Williamson is up-and-coming and was actually meant fly to the USA despite being injured but pulled out.

Danielle Carter missed out on a place, probably due to lack of form.

Beth Mead could have been selected as she had positive arguments for a call up. Richard Laverty suggest that she was called up as a replacement but pulled out.

Alex Scott retired after the Euros and therefore is not going to get a call-up.

Anna Moorhouse, who is the club back-up goalkeeper, does not get enough game time to deserve a call-up.

So we end up in a situation where we have no players involved with England, while Manchester City have nine who will travel, train, and play three games around the US East Cost.

It is fair to say we will have a big advantage in term of fitness, when we play them in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup final five days after the Lionesses come back from the international week.

And that injury list crisis is not specific to our English players.

The Scottish contingent has been reduced as well with Kim Little not selected after coming back from her ACL.

Emma Mitchell also pulled out. We have to remember that last year the Cyprus Cup injuries resulted in her missing the whole Spring Series as well as the Euros 2017.

Lisa Evans is the sole Arsenal player involved with Scotland.

And the same thing applies to the Euro winners, the Netherlands.

Anna Miedema was already out with a tibia injury and a last-minute withdrawal from Danielle Van De Donk means half of our Dutch contingent is staying at home.

Dominique Janssen and Sari Van Veenendaal will play at the Algarve Cup.

Katie McCabe and Louise Quinn are involved with Ireland and will hopefully come back with a clean bill of health.

Some younger players are involved with England u17,u18, u19 and u20 squads but the FA have not made any announcements.

Anna Filbey will miss out on the La Manga u19 tournament due to her right foot injury.

Hopefully, all those injured players will heal, have a good rest and be ready for the League Cup final.

Even if they will lack match sharpness, they will probably be in better shape than the City players who will have trekked to the USA.

The clock is certainly ticking for the injured players and they have 17 days to get back into full fitness.
