Just in case you’re keeping note, Jack Wilshere is still officially the most fouled player in the Premier League.

Jack’s style of play has always been known to invite challenges.

At the moment, he attempts four dribbles on average per game, which means he’s running with the ball a lot.

Given that he plays in the centre of the pitch as opposed to up front, like Alexis Sanchez who is also known for dribbling, the 26-year-old gets kicked.

A lot.

The England international is also good. Very good.

Which I imagine makes opposition players panic and stick a leg out when they shouldn’t, or go in for tackles harder than is recommended.

The midfielder is fouled 3.59 times on average every 90 minutes – more than any other player in the Premier League.

The player that gets fouled the second-most is Watford forward Richarlison (3.32).

Eden Hazard gets fouled the fifth-most: 3.08.

With this in mind, it’s perhaps easy to see why Jack has spent 1013 days sidelined since he made a name for himself in Arsenal’s first team in 2009/10.

Everything from his position, his style of play and the threat he poses invites challenges.

After the first few injuries, his ankles were left weakened, which meant his body could take less and less.

Of course, there’s some bad luck thrown in and other factors, such as genetics.

However, as the Daily Mail say, while the amount of fouls he experiences might not entirely explain Jack’s injury woes, they certainly ‘tell a story’.
