Arsene Wenger has been a fan of Henrikh Mkhitaryan since he was at Borussia Dortmund, so could the opportunity to sign the 28-year-old prompt him to listen to Manchester United?

Back in 2016, Arsenal were reportedly really close to signing Mkhitaryan for a mere £25m. Manchester United, however, swooped in at the last minute and bid £30m, while his agent, Mino Raiola, convinced him that a move to Old Trafford would be in his best interest.

Raiola’s clients include Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, so you can understand why.

Since the move from Dortmund, the 28-year-old has just made 26 Premier League starts, and it’s fair to say that the Armenian has probably second-guessed his decision to choose United.

Now, with the Red Devils said to be willing to offer Arsenal £25m plus Mkhitaryan for Alexis, the playmaker might get a second chance to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

It would be bad news for Arsenal fans to lose Alexis, but good news for manager Jose Mourinho to sign the Chilean.

On one hand, Wenger would be selling one of his best players to a rival –  more specifically, Jose Mourinho. On the other, the Chilean would only go to Manchester City anyway and, if Wenger offloads the forward to United instead, the Frenchman would get a player he’s coveted for years.

If Mkhitaryan came to Arsenal he could play alongside Mesut Ozil, behind Alexandre Lacazette – providing the German stays, that is. What an attacking line-up that would be.

During his final season at Dortmund, he netted 11 goals and assisted 20 in 31 Bundesliga appearances. With a manager that appreciates him and gives him regular game time, there’s absolutely no reason why he can’t return to his best.

Wenger is probably well aware of this fact.
