We all know that Arsene Wenger loves an attacking midfielder and this week it looks as if the boss will be able to move one step closer to fielding a whole team of attacking players.

Speaking about Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s move to Arsenal as part of a straight swap deal with Alexis Sanchez, who’s going to Manchester United, Wenger could barely hide his excitement as he spoke about the possibility of starting both Mkhi AND Mesut Ozil.

Asked how he could fit Mkhitaryan and Ozil into the same team, reports the Evening Standard, Wenger said: “Just play the good players! They can always play together.

“Today what have you on the pitch? They’re all attacking players. [Alex] Iwobi, Ozil, [Jack] Wilshere, Lacazette, [Granit] Xhaka. They’re all offensive players, basically.”

Arsenal were close to signing Mkhitaryan from Dortmund in 2016 before United came in and offered more money. Therefore, while we would have liked to sign the 29-year-old sooner, he’s been on our radar for a decent amount of time. He’s not a player Jose Mourinho’s had to bully us into signing.

During his final season in the Bundesliga, the Armenian scored 23 goals and assisted 32 in 52 appearances, which is astonishing. Put him alongside Ozil and in front of Jack Wilshere in an attacking line-up – almost the opposite to United’s where Mkhi struggled – and you’ve practically got Wenger’s dream midfield.

What’s more, we could be signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well. The 28-year-old has been prolific in Germany and is crazy-quick. Having the Gabon international as well as Alexandre Lacazette could be deadly.

Of course, we’ll still be letting in goals for fun but as long as we outscore them…
