The media claim Theo Walcott offered himself to AC Milan for a January transfer, but why would the 28-year-old want to go to Italy in a World Cup year?

The Daily Star write that Walcott is trying to secure a loan move to Milan, in an attempt to increase his game time. On the surface, it makes sense. The winger still hasn’t started a single league match for Arsenal this season. Although he’s playing in the cup competitions and in Europe, that’s not enough for a player in his peak years.

However, the forward has drawn interest from plenty of English clubs. According to reports, Newcastle, West Ham, Everton and Southampton are all considering a move. If Walcott wants to get in Southgate’s World Cup squad, the safest way to do it is in the England. Not least because that’s where he’s always played, and he’d need time to adapt to Serie A.

Plus, the former Southampton man has a family to consider. He has a wife and two children living in England, who might not want to relocate to Milan. They recently spent some time on holiday in Rome, but that was just for a wedding. Perhaps Walcott might consider the move in the summer.

But right now, Milan are in 11th place in Serie A, and it’s the middle of the league season. With all those Premier League clubs interested, I can’t see it.
