Chelsea beat Arsenal Women 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Although the Gunners weren’t terrible, their defence was lacking, which left them ripe for the picking against a Chelsea side that score for fun.

The first goal of the game came from the Blues in the 24th minute. Jordan Nobbs and Vivianne Miedema had previously hit the woodwork for Arsenal but Maren Mjelde’s goal bobbled over the line to put the home side 1-0 ahead.

Arsenal didn’t draw level until the second half when Miedema finally found the back of the net. The 21-year-old has now scored two goals in four appearances.

The Gunners could only hold onto the draw for four minutes before Chelsea’s Jemma Rose once again put her side in front.

Three minutes later, Dominique Janssen, who had been optimistic ahead of the game, brought the score level again after Chelsea failed to clear their lines.

Emma Hayes’ side had the chance to go ahead again in the 70th minute but Arsenal goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal kept out Mjelde’s strike.

Beth Mead went close moments later.

Arsenal managed to hold on until the 83rd minute when the ball rebounded off Sari and over the line.

It was a tough pill to swallow considering we had our chances but our poor defending combined with Chelsea’s strength meant we left empty-handed.

Although, it was only Joe Montemurro’s second game in charge so we can’t be too critical.

Chelsea are now top of the FA WSL table, one point above Manchester City.

Arsenal drop to fourth.
