Arsenal managed a 40th placed finish in the Christmas Football League table, after a mediocre festive period.

The table, put together by Barriesview.com ranked all 92 sides in the Football League based on their four matches over Christmas and New Year.

Only four teams didn’t play four games, with a couple of League Two fixtures abandoned. But for everyone else, they’re competing on a level playing field.

Other than the fact they’re playing different teams in different leagues at different times, of course.

Arsenal finished solidly in mid-table.

The Gunners picked up six points with one win and three draws, scored nine goals and conceded eight.

I doubt many teams had a more exciting festive period, but a large number certainly had a more successful one.

Of course, Wenger’s side weren’t helped at all by dodgy penalties in two of the matches.

At the top of the list were three of Arsenal’s big-six rivals.

Tottenham finished in first place, with 10 points and a goal difference of eight. Liverpool came second, with the same number of points, but a goal difference of seven. Then Manchester City were third, with the same points and goal difference, but fewer goals scored. Surprisingly, no club from all four leagues won all of their matches.

Regardless, I’m sure Spurs fans are excited to add this latest accolade to their calendar year Golden Boot award for Harry Kane and the “we finished above Arsenal once” trophy.
