Wojciech Szczesny has been given the chance to shine at new club Juventus after Gigi Buffon picked up a calf injury and the Serie A giants are so impressed that they’ve reportedly stopped looking at other goalkeepers.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, there were still question marks hanging over Woj’s head. The hierarchy at the Serie A club weren’t quite convinced the Poland international was good enough to become #1 after Buffon retires at the end of the season.

They were even allegedly still keeping an eye on other targets, such as Athletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Woj, however, has apparently erased any doubt Juve were having over him succeeding Buffon with a string of strong performances for the Old Lady.

Since Buffon suffered a calf injury, Woj has played five Serie A games in a row (13 in all comps since the start of the season) and kept four clean sheets.

The 27-year-old has only conceded one goal since December 1.

In all competitions, he’s kept nine clean sheets and only shipped six goals.

Juventus currently sit second in the Serie A table, one point below Napoli who have only been beaten once this term.

While Juve are known for their resilient defence, which obviously helps Woj out, his stats are really impressive and for the Italian media to be embracing him so firmly is brilliant.

I’m really happy for him. And still furious at Arsenal.
