Arsenal remain interested in Mainz defender Abdou Diallo as they want to strengthen the defence this month.

Arsenal are still keen to bring players in this month and could make a move for Mainz’s Abdou Diallo. That’s according to the Mirror, who report that Diallo could be option should the club fail to sign West Brom’s Jonny Evans.

While the attack has been the focus of this window, Arsene Wenger still wants to add a defender. Diallo, a 21-year-old centre back, is apparently a recommendation of new head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat.

Sven Mislintat
Sven Mislintat, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, has become Arsenal’s new Head of Recruitment.

He’s established himself in the Bundesliga with a number of fine performances after joining from Monaco in the summer. Mislintat has already had a hand in bringing a young defender to the club.

Konstantinos Mavropanos was scouted by him before he joined the club earlier this month. It seems that the club have an eye on the future as a number of their defenders are ageing. Per Mertesacker is retiring in the summer, while Laurent Koscielny is 32 and Nacho Monreal is 31.

Should Arsenal sign Diallo, he would join the likes of Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Mavropanos as one for the future.
