Southampton are hopeful that they can sign Theo Walcott and reignite his career, but will face competition from Everton.

Walcott’s long stint at Arsenal could soon be coming to an end. If the Telegraph’s report in anything to go by, both Southampton and Everton are very keen on signing the 28-year-old.

Saints are interested in a loan move, as they’d be unable to match Walcott’s current wages, whereas Everton are more capable of meeting his demands. Both teams are in need of a new forward who can score goals in the Premier League.

Southampton see untapped potential in Walcott and feel they can boost his career, even in its late stage.

He left the club as a 16-year-old in January 2006, going on to make 396 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 108 goals. He’s had a very good career with the Gunners, even if it seems to be ending with a whimper.

The forward has made just four appearances in the Premier League this season, however. He was on the bench for the 1-1 draw against West Brom, and didn’t manage to get on the pitch.

Arsene Wenger has been very reluctant to use him outside of cup competitions, which suggests he wouldn’t stand in his way should he decide to leave.
