Former Dortmund forward, Michael Rummenigge, reckons that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would only go to Arsenal for the money because we’re certainly not a top club.

Rummenigge has aimed a dig at not only Aubameyang but Arsenal over the 28-year-old’s proposed move to north London.

The 53-year-old reckons the striker is only joining the Gunners for the money, which is probably one of the only times we’ve heard that in relation to our club.

“Arsenal London is no top club in Europe. In this matter, it’s all about the money,” said Rummenigge, who also played for Bayern Munich.

“Borussia Dortmund has developed into a training club for the top clubs in Europe.”

Interestingly, Rummenigge doesn’t believe the same thing would have happened if Aubameyang had been a Borussia Mönchengladbach player.

“I know Max Eberl (manager) and the work in Gladbach very well,” he said. I think that would not happen there. I would almost rule it out, because Max Eberl attaches great importance to obliging players who have certain moral concepts.”

At the moment, it’s hard to guess how much money Aubameyang will actually be on if he completes a move to Arsenal.

Initial reports suggested he was going to get €10-a-year, which then changed to €10m over the course of a three-year deal.

Most recently, SportBild reported the Gabon international will be getting a consider sum of €20m-a-year instead.

Therefore, although it first seemed as if Aubameyang was taking a pay-cut to come to Arsenal, this may no longer be the case, which makes sense. We have to give him a reason to want to sign for us.

Although Rummenigge might be right – money may be a factor in the striker’s move – I think most of his reasoning stems from the break down in his relationship with Dortmund.

Neither party seem happy with him being there so it makes sense that he leaves.

Zorc update

Speaking on Saturday, Zorc, said, “We are prepared to implement a transfer under certain parameters, and only if these parameters are fully met.

“Arsenal have made several attempts so far [to sign Aubameyang] and they have all been rejected.

“Either our demands are fulfilled, then there can be another transfer, or they will not be fulfilled and Aubameyang will play in Dortmund until the summer.

“By the way, this has also been discussed with and accepted by the Aubameyang family.”
