Kelechi Nwakali has returned to MVV Maastricht on loan after struggling for regular game time at VVV Venlo.

Nwakali was on loan at Eredivisie side VVV Venlo but only managed 480 minutes of first team football. They have now confirmed that his loan will end with immediate effect, and the midfielder will be headed to MVV Maastricht in the Jupiler League.

In a statement on their official website, they said: “The Nigerian could not count on a lot of playing time at VVV Venlo. Therefore, after  mutual consultation, it was decided to terminate his agreement with the Venlo club.

“Nwakali switches to MVV with immediate effect, where he was already successful last year. VVV-Venlo wishes Kelechi a lot of success in Maastricht.”

The Nigerian enjoyed an excellent spell with Maastricht last season. In his first professional campaign in European football, he made 35 appearances and scored three goals.

The termination of his loan at VVV Venlo had been coming. His brother, Allwell Nwakali, told All Nigeria Soccer that Arsenal were not satisfied with the amount of game time he was getting.

He did, however, mention interest from Porto which clearly hasn’t materialised into anything. Nwakali is currently without a work permit and therefore can’t play in England. Until then, he will go on loan to various clubs.

Should he find his best form again, he could earn a second chance at playing at a higher level next season.
