Jordan Nobbs says she’s proud of the team for making the Continental Cup final. She admits Arsenal Women need to tidy things up after leaving the win so late on Sunday though.

The Gunners went into the final 15 minutes of the weekend’s semi-final 2-1 down to Reading. They managed to turn it round at the end, with Nobbs poking home the winner. She talked to Arsenal.com after the match.

“We seemed to be leaving things to the last minute,” the midfielder admitted. “We had a lot of chances today, but we do need to take them and we did that. Overall we’re showing great character in our team and the main thing is we’re in the final.

“I’m very proud of the team today, to come back and we played well. But we do need tidy up a bit and not concede as many goals.”

Arsenal did manage to take an early lead, initially. Beth Mead turned home Danielle Carter’s cross for 1-0 with under 5 minutes played. Reading equalised not long afterwards, and took the lead in the 71st minute.

The Gunners had most of the chances, so they would certainly be disappointed to go behind at that stage. They completed their late comeback to cover up their defensive issues, but it’s something they need to work on in future.

Nobbs said she’s pleased to reach another final, and believes the team can win it. The Gunners will face WSL 1 leaders Manchester City in March, so it promises to be a tough match.

“I’ve got four (Continental Cup trophies),” the England international pointed out. “So it’s always a trophy I want to carry on winning. I want to make sure I can get as many as I can at this club and hopefully we can take our chances in the final. I’m looking forward to it.

“Of course we can win it. We have got to the final, won it before and have experience in big pressure games. We have all the tools and just need to prepare right for it.”

For now, Nobbs and the rest of the team need to prepare for another match against Reading. The two sides face each other again on January 28, this time in the WSL. The Arsenal number eight hopes her side learn from their mistakes and take heart from their win.

“You can’t take any team in this league for granted,” she explained. “Reading have pushed as a squad. They got two goals today and we know we need to be careful. But hopefully we knocked a bit of confidence out of them. We can beat them again.”
