Arsenal signing Manchester United playmaker, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, is apparently a very real possibility.

When reports that Alexis Sanchez was moving to United in exchange for Mkhitaryan first emerged, most of us scoffed. Swap deals hardly ever happen. However, Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal signing the 28-year-old is indeed a possibility.

“As long as it is not over the line you have to accept it could not happen,” Wenger said during his pre-Crystal Palace presser.

“My understanding, yes. If it is a possibility it is because I like the player.

“We played many times against him at Dortmund and he appreciated the quality of our game and the way we play.”

Alexis has reportedly signed a four-and-a-half year deal worth £14m-a-year after tax, which suggests that him and his agent have reason to believe Mkhitaryan will go the other way. The Gunners won’t allow the Chilean to leave if we’ve not signed a replacement, as was the case in the summer.

Mkhitaryan moved to United from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 after being heavily linked with Arsenal, so it’s not exactly a surprise that Wenger would jump at the chance to sign him while offloading a 29-year-old who doesn’t want to be at the club.

The Armenian is even an Arsenal fan – it’s a match made in heaven.

Although Mkhitaryan hasn’t had the best time since his move to the Premier League, during his last season at Dortmund, he netted 23 goals and provided 32 assists. There’s no reason why he can’t rediscover his form with the Gunners.

As Wenger says, until the deal is done, it could always fall through but at least we know that the club’s trying to do something.

Arsenal are also linked to Dortmund striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
