Beth Mead rallied the troops after Arsenal qualified for the Continental Cup final on Sunday.

Arsenal Women fought back from 2-1 down to beat Reading 3-2 at the weekend. Mead took to social media after the stunning result to hail her side’s fight.

The 22-year-old admitted that while a lot of work still has to be done, her side showed ‘grit and determination’ to come away with a victory.

It was Mead herself who put the Gunners 1-0 ahead in the fifth minute, but just moments later Reading equalised through Brooke Chaplen. The next goal didn’t come until the 70th minute, courtesy of the Royals’ Lauren Bruton.

With just 10 minutes on the clock, it looked as if Reading were on their way to the final. However, Vivianne Miedema and Jordan Nobbs fired home two goals in quick succession, swinging the result in the Arsenal’s favour and sending them to the final.

The Gunners face Manchester City in the Conti Cup final, after the Sky Blues beat Chelsea 1-0 in their respective semi-final outing. The final will be played on March 11.

Arsenal’s next clash is against Reading again on January 28, this time in the FA WSL. New manager Joe Montemurro and his team now have two weeks to go back to the drawing board and make improvements.
