Arsenal talks with Bordeaux winger ‘progressing well’ as 20-year-old learns English

Talks between Arsenal and Bordeaux winger, Malcom, are reportedly progressing well.

According to Goal and O Jogo journalist, Bruno Andrade, talks between Arsenal and Malcom are progressing well.

Translated: “I posted last week that Arsenal came into the fray for former Corinthian (player) Malcolm. Today I hear that the conversations are progressing well.”

The 20-year-old also shared that he’s learning English via his Instagram story on Saturday.

However, it’s should also be noted that the winger has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham as well. Therefore, while this may indicate that he’s coming to the UK, it doesn’t necessarily point to Arsenal.

Malcom signed for Ligue 1 club Bordeaux from Corinthians in January 2016.

The Brazilian forward had risen through the ranks at the renowned club and broke into the first team in 2014. He went on to make 51 appearances and score seven goals.

Since his move to France, Malcom has appeared in 78 matches, scored 18 goals and assisted 13.

The forward is tipped to replace Alexis Sanchez after the 29-year-old’s inevitable move to Manchester City goes ahead. However, given how young Malcom is, I’m not sure this would be the case.

Malcom is primarily a right winger. Therefore, if we really are signing him, I’d say he’s far more likely to be replacing Theo Walcott than Alexis.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino recently confirmed that his club are looking to bring the 28-year-old on board in January.
