Arsenal and Liverpool have both received a  major boost in their alleged pursuit of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Goretzka’s agent Jorg Neubauer has confirmed that, contrary to recent reports, the 22-year-old hasn’t agreed to join Bayern Munich… yet.

“Jorg Neubauer has yesterday confirmed to me that there is no decision so far,” claimed Schalke’s sporting director, Christian Heidel.

Over the weekend, reports claimed that the German has agreed to sign for the Bundesliga giants. This is despite Liverpool being heavily linked with a move for him last week and Arsenal before that. However, it now appears this isn’t the case.

Goretzka is currently a man in demand after netting four goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances this term. The midfielder only has six months left on his current deal with Schalke and it doesn’t look as if he plans to extend this, which is why the likes of Arsenal, Bayern, Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona are all reportedly hovering.

The Germany international will apparently announce where his future lies in the coming weeks. However, while Bayern and Liverpool could both be likely destinations, if the reports are to be believed, Arsenal will still push to sign Goretzka in January.

With either Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez or both leaving by the end of the season, Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen to bring Goretzka on board as an ‘insurance policy’.

By the sounds of it, we’ll find out if this really is the case by the end of the month.
