Alexandre Lacazette is currently on course to score fewer goals than any of Arsenal’s top goalscorers since Robin van Persie in 2008/09 when he netted just 11.

BREAKING UPDATE: Arsenal and Valencia agree Coquelin fee

Despite being Arsenal’s current top goalscorer in the Premier League with eight, Lacazette is on course to net the fewest goals since Van Persie, who was Arsenal’s top goalscorer in 2008/09 with 11.

On average, the 26-year-old has scored 0.36 goals per game this season. A massive decline on his 0.93 per match at Lyon last term. He’s also not found the back of the net since the Manchester United game at the Emirates on December 2.

This means that if the France international doesn’t put an end to his slump soon, he’s on course to net just 5.76 more goals during the 16 remaining Premier League features. This will leave him at between 13-14 for the entire season.

If this happens, it wouldn’t be catastrophic. It’s Lacazette’s first season in a completely new league. Overall, he’s been a breath of fresh air.

For all we know, he could go suddenly hit form. The striker’s generally been playing well. And, as we know, he’s capable of netting up to 0.93 goals per game.

Although becoming our ‘worst’ top goalscorer since 2008/09 might not sit well with Laca, Arsenal fans know he’s got enough in his locker to improve over the coming years.
