Martin Keown believes Jack Wilshere is almost as good as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, and views him as a beacon of hope who will keep his place when Aaron Ramsey returns.

Wilshere is on a great first team run after Aaron Ramsey’s injury opened the door for him, and is showing his quality.

Fans are pleased to see him playing well, not least Martin Keown, who believes the midfielder is “approaching the levels” of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

“Jack Wilshere proved against Chelsea on Wednesday that he is well and truly back, and a force to be reckoned with,” he wrote in the Daily Mail.

“He is a superstar approaching the levels of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil but, crucially, he wants to play for Arsenal.”

We have seen improved performances from Ozil and Alexis as well over the winter period.

Keown has put that down to Wilshere’s return to the team, and believes he makes a better partner for Granit Xhaka as well.

“It is no coincidence that we have seen improved performances from Sanchez and Ozil since Wilshere returned to the first team, too. They appreciate a player of his quality,” he said.

“Wilshere also makes a better midfield partner for Granit Xhaka. Unlike Aaron Ramsey, who tends to bomb forward, Wilshere stays in midfield. I can see Ramsey moving out wide when he returns from injury rather than taking Wilshere’s place.”

He rounds off his lavish praise of the 26-year-old by claiming he’s the opposite of Ozil and Alexis.

“There has been plenty of doom and gloom surrounding Sanchez and Ozil. In Wilshere, Arsenal have a beacon of hope for the future.”

It’s not surprising that Keown feels this way.

He’s taken a very dim view of Ozil and Alexis’ contract situation.

It was only last week that he said that the pair had been overindulged.

He’s also had a big problem with Ozil.

He once speculated that the 29-year-old was playing for a move when his form improved in October.

That came just days after he blamed him for Arsenal’s defeat against Watford.

Wilshere is also out of contract in the summer, yet, interesting enough hasn’t had the same accusations levelled at him.
