Manchester City are reportedly chasing Jean Seri, while Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona are also following him. Why do Arsenal seem to have ended their interest in the midfielder?

Over the summer, Seri was the only player who came close to Monaco’s Thomas Lemar in terms of Arsenal media speculation.

The Gunners seemed to want a midfielder, with Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere out injured, and the Ivorian was the clear favourite. Nothing went through at the time, but fans expected the club to go back in January. Now, the window is open, and The S*n claim City, PSG and Barcelona are all after the 26-year-old, but they don’t mention Arsenal.

In a way, you’d expect the Gunners to want a new midfielder more than ever. They’ve sold Francis Coquelin to Valencia while Santi Cazorla is injured again and doesn’t look like coming back this season. Mohamed Elneny, for all his enthusiasm, only looks like a squad option at best.

Perhaps Arsenal have lost interest because Seri hasn’t been able to replicate his 2016/17 form. Last season, the Nice man scored seven goals and assisted 10 from midfield. This campaign, he has one goal and five assists.

Maybe the Gunners also want someone stronger defensively. Whoscored give aerial duels, concentration and tackling as Seri’s three weaknesses statistically, which sounds like every midfielder already playing for Arsenal. Whatever the reason, it seems like the move is dead for now.
