Emile Smith-Rowe scored a fantastic goal for Arsenal u23s at the weekend against Sunderland, drawing astonishment from Arsenal fans and going viral in the process.

The 17-year-old had the chance to make an impression for the top academy side after Arsene Wenger held a couple of u23s back for the first-team. The youngster certainly made the most of that opportunity, scoring a top quality curling effort:

Arsenal supporters loved the finish from the winger, which also went viral, and showed their appreciation on Twitter:

The goal really was a special one for the young Gunner. It looked destined to go wide when it left his foot, before curling back inside the post in impressive fashion.

Although Smith-Rowe provided an assist in Arsenal’s u23 match against Manchester United a fortnight ago, this was his first goal for the team this season.

He has three goals in five games for the u18s this campaign. As one of the players on the verge of breaking into the u23s, he’s had to split his time between the two sides so far.

Not only that, but Smith-Rowe also took a break from the Arsenal academy completely earlier this season. He travelled with the u17 England team as they won the World Cup in October. The Englishman scored one and assisted one in three appearances.

Hopefully now he can focus on pushing on with the Gunners.
