Dominique Janssen is feeling good about Arsenal’s FA WSL clash against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal Women are just three points off Chelsea in second and a win would put them level. It’s going to be a huge match. Therefore, it’s good to know that Janssen is feeling optimistic.

“I think Chelsea are a very tough opponent,” said Janssen. “You see what they’ve been doing lately – they’ve been really good, so they’re definitely one of the toughest teams in the league.”

The 22-year-old added, “(Montemurro) has very clear ideas of what he wants, and he wants to play a little bit of a different style.

“He still wants us to be very dominating, but he brings a lot of clarity to the team. I think that’s very important for all of us, so we know exactly what everybody’s job is.

“That’s really helping the team – I think we’ve already moved forward since he came. I’m very optimistic about the Chelsea game, actually!”

Joe Montemurro took over from Pedro Losa in November.

Losa had been in charge of Arsenal Women for three years and during that time, the Gunners had stagnated. They have failed to win the WSL since 2012 and have not been playing the slick, passing style of football that Arsenal are known for while also missing out on Champions League football.

It’s good to see that Montemurro, who’s been a football coach since 2001, is trying to bring back the Arsenal way of playing.

This is something Jordan Nobbs also spoke about recently and it appears that the players are responding positively.

“Our new manager Joe Montemurro has been incredible since coming in and has got us playing the proper Arsenal way,” Nobbs said in her column for the Metro.

“He wants us to play football, enjoy being on the ball and entertain the fans. He certainly doesn’t want us going long, but instead doing everything we can to retain possession.

“He has a winning mentality but wants us to play football and have freedom in what we do. He’s a great person and with the confidence he’s brought in has given a dynamic back to our team as we’re all on the same page.”

Montemurro has only been in charge of one Arsenal game so far since he arrived in north London: the Gunners’ 3-1 Conti Cup win over Sunderland.

The match against Chelsea won’t be as straight-forward.

Emma Hayes’ side have scored more goals than any other WSL team this season – 21, conceding just two in the process.

Chelsea v Arsenal kicks off at 13:30 (UK time) on Sunday 7 January and will be shown live on BT Sport.
